World Refugee Day: Standing Together
Monday, June 23, 2025
To mark the day, we joined RAMFEL’s community event in Ilford. It was a chance to connect, share support and spend time together in a welcoming space.
World Refugee Day: Standing Together
World Refugee Day is held each year on 20 June. It is a time to recognise the journeys of people who have been forced to leave their homes and seek safety elsewhere. For many of our residents, this is not something distant. It is something they know first-hand.
At Arhag, we were founded to support people who have migrated to the UK. Many of our tenants arrived in difficult circumstances. They continue to face challenges in finding security, community and a place to call home. This is why World Refugee Day matters to us. It reflects the lives of those we work with every day.
Last week, we joined a community event hosted by our partners at RAMFEL at the Cardinal Heenan Centre in Ilford. Sam from our team attended on behalf of Arhag. The event was open to all and brought together local residents, support workers and volunteers.

There were quiet conversations at tables and small moments of connection. Some people came for advice or a free health check. Others dropped in for tea or took part in games and activities. There was no main stage or formal speeches. Just a space that felt welcoming.
Sam said: “What stood out was the simplicity. It gave people a moment to feel safe and included.”
We are thankful to RAMFEL for their ongoing work and for creating this space. Events like this give people a chance to ask questions, find support or simply feel part of something.
At Arhag, we continue to stand with people who have experienced displacement and hardship. We remain committed to supporting refugees and migrants to build secure lives in the UK, with a safe and stable home.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support and welcome people into our communities.
